Trsteno, Slano and Ston, up the quiet coast
North of Dubrovnik the coast gets quieter fast. The old Dubrovnik nobility built their summer houses here, and some of the gardens are still there.
An easy day: a garden in the morning, a swim or coffee by the sea, and Ston in the afternoon.

Trsteno Arboretum
Ston
The plan
Trsteno Arboretum
The garden of a Renaissance summer villa, later turned into an arboretum, running down the slope towards the sea. By the entrance stand two huge old plane trees.
Slano
A deep, sheltered bay with a small harbour. Time for a swim or a coffee.
Ston
The walls on the hill and the salt pans they were built to protect.
Good to know
Give Trsteno at least an hour. Tickets for the arboretum and the Ston walls are bought on the spot. From Cavtat the drive north takes about half an hour longer.
