To Split the long way, through Mostar
If you have a whole day for the move to Split, you can leave the coast behind for a few hours. This route goes inland into Herzegovina and only meets the sea again at the end.
It is a full day and your luggage rides with you the whole time.

The stops
Počitelj
A stone village on a steep slope above the Neretva, with a mosque and a fortress tower at the top. Worth the short climb for the view.
Mostar
Cross the Old Bridge, walk through the bazaar and have lunch. Two to three hours is about right.
Split
From Mostar we drive back into Croatia and down to the coast, then to your address in Split.
Good to know
You cross the border twice, so everyone needs a passport or ID card. Our day runs from 10:00, and summer queues at the border can stretch it, so we agree the timetable carefully before confirming.
